Sermon: He is Risen Indeed (Marion Brown)

1 Corinthians 15:1-11 (NET)

15:1 Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel that I preached to you, that you received and on which you stand, 15:2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message I preached to you – unless you believed in vain. 15:3 For I passed on to you as of first importance what I also received – that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, 15:4 and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures, 15:5 and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 15:6 Then he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. 15:7 Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 15:8 Last of all, as though to one born at the wrong time, he appeared to me also. 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not been in vain. In fact, I worked harder than all of them – yet not I, but the grace of God with me. 15:11 Whether then it was I or they, this is the way we preach and this is the way you believed.

A very long post this week for an equally important Easter Sunday. Eric Brake (author of this website) was baptized today. Thanks to Lou for taking photos while I was “busy”. I’ll say for this week the best photo is the last one on this page taken by Greg. Thanks!

Sermon: A Prelude to the Passion (Marion Brown)

MP3: sermon-m.brown-Apr17-2011

Matthew chapter 26 and 27

Then Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and gave up his spirit. 27:51 Just then the temple curtain was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks were split apart. 27:52 And tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had died were raised. 27:53 (They came out of the tombs after his resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.) 27:54 Now when the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and what took place, they were extremely terrified and said, “Truly this one was God’s Son!”

Added Rev. Marion (sick)
Added Brandon/Jennifer Cooksey and family (house fire)

Rev. Marion caught the creeping crud today. We hope she’s feeling better tomorrow. I was needing to refresh my photos of the church exterior. I picked an excellent day to do it. Those blue skies go on forever.

You’re Missing Out If You’re Not Listening

Every week I record the worship service then I’ll edit a sermon-only version suitable to post online. Despite the password I want the sermon to go out to the widest possible audience. The MP3 files I post are playable with or without an iPod/MP3 player. Your level of technical knowledge (or lack of it!) doesn’t matter. If you email me and request the password to unlock the sermons. I’ll do everything possible to provide simple instructions and help playing the files. If you are interested please email me! feedback at christianheightsumc dot org.

Friends and family of Christian Heights or Rev. Marion get first priority. You should definitely contact me!

Sermon: Out of the Wilderness part 5 (Marion Brown)

MP3: sermon-m.brown-Apr10-2011

John 11: 1-45 (NET)

11:23 Jesus replied, “Your brother will come back to life again.” 11:24 Martha said, “I know that he will come back to life again in the resurrection at the last day.” 11:25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live even if he dies, 11:26 and the one who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” 11:27 She replied, “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God who comes into the world.”

Sermon: Out of the Wilderness part 4 (Marion Brown)

MP3: sermon-m.brown-Apr3-2011

John 9:1-41 (NET)

9:1 Now as Jesus was passing by, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. 9:2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who committed the sin that caused him to be born blind, this man or his parents?” 9:3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but he was born blind so that the acts of God may be revealed through what happens to him. 9:4 We must perform the deeds of the one who sent me as long as it is daytime. Night is coming when no one can work. 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 9:6 Having said this, he spat on the ground and made some mud with the saliva. He smeared the mud on the blind man’s eyes 9:7 and said to him, “Go wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated “sent”). So the blind man went away and washed, and came back seeing.
